Keel Camping is an expansive campsite along the shores of Keel Strand in the beautiful and amazing Achill Island. This idyllic campsite is a stones throw from sandy dunes, where you can hear the Atlantic waves rolling in, you will be nestled among the soaring seas cliffs of the Minaun, with the majestic Slievemore sheltering you, and the enchanting Croghan Mountain with “The Rat” reminding you of the type of day to expect!

Here you can relax, restore and revitalise as you feel the hustle and bustle of daily life leave you, and you slowly become “achillised”! There is no better place to be 

Pitch types

Keel Camping is an open site across circa 10acres, there a number of hard stand pitches, and the rest of the area is grass fields, for grass pitches. It has been described to us as “the nearest thing to wild camping with facilities!”. You can select a hard stand pitch or grass pitch when booking. Your pitch will be allocated on arrival.

Reception

Welcome to our reception, where you will be greeted with a warm welcome by our Team. Here you can check in, book your stay, get information about Achill and local services and amenities. You can avail of our items on sale: Camping basics – Toilet fluids, toilet paper, pegs, gas, electricity cables, our merchandise- hats, mugs, bags, clothing, our confectionary – Ice-cream, crisps, chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks, water, our coffee / tea. You can purchase tokens for the showers and cooking facilities.

Social Room

A warm and welcoming space for all ages who want respite from the outdoors! You can play pool, or air hockey (coins required), you can access vending machine for snacks, play area for small children, TV and couches to chill out, book shelf and games to use and swap! This area doubles up as an entertainment spot and there have been a few great music sessions already here this season!

Showers

New showers were fitted last season, which has been a great addition, a nicer shower experience! Tiling upgrade will take place for the 2024 season.

4 showers in Minaun building beside reception and 5 showers at Slievemore Building. These operate on token system, 1 token for €1 for 5 mins shower.

Outdoor Showers

2 Outdoor showers are available at the campsite beach gates, great to clean off the sandy feet and wetsuits before showering!

Dedicated Service area

Keel Camping offers a drive thru service area for 2 campervans, motorhomes and caravans at a time.

Services include chemical toilet disposal, fresh water hoses, grey water disposal, reclycling bins, general waste bins, bottle banks.

Toilets

There are mens and ladies’ toilets in both Minaun and Slievemore Buildings.

Accessible Facilities

There is a facility for shower and toilet. Baby changing facilities available.

Wash up area

There is a wash up area with 4 sinks and in the Minaun Building and another area with 5 sinks in the Campers Kitchen in the Slievemore Building.

Laundry

There are 3 washing machines and 3 Dryers available – they require tokens – €5 for wash and €5 for dry (60mins each). Ironing board and iron are available for use. Sink available for handwashing.

Campers Kitchen

There are 2 fridges – they get emptied and cleaned alternately Tuesday and Friday. A freezer is available for ice blocks. Campers can use the 2 kettles, toaster and microwave at their convenience. There are 2 gas hobs for cooking – require tokens €1 for 20mins. There is a picnic table for dining.

Bins

There are bin areas at Minaun and Slievemore Buildings – General waster (blue), Recycle (Green), and bottle banks. We are environmentally conscious and encourage segregation of waste and correct disposal of same.

Services for motorhomes, campervans and caravans

Chemical toilet disposal toilet at the back of the Slievemore block. Adjacent to this are the grey water disposal grills. Fresh water hoses are available here.

We have many picnic benches and seating around the site and at the buildings for guests to dine al fresco and to meet and socialise.

Water

Fresh drinking water is available at taps in many locations around the site and at the back of the Slievemore Building.

Lighting

The park is lit at night with park lights and building lights.

Beach access

The park has 3 exits to the beach, with cold-water showers at 2 of the exits, which is convenient on return from the beach!

Entrance Barrier

The park is accessed via barrier at the main gate. You will get code or the barrier will recognise your registration. The park cannot be accessed from 1am-8am, other than in the case of an emergency.

Pet Friendly

Dogs welcome on the beach at certain times on Keel Beach. Keel Commonage is farm land, please keep your dogs on a lead.

We have 3 caravans available for rent, complete with awning for that real camping experience! A great taster for someone interested in buying a caravan!

Local amenities and attractions

Keel Camping is located along the shore of the expansive Keel Beach, surrounded by the majestic Minaun Cliffs, Slievemore and Croughan Mountains, plenty of opportunities for walking and swimming. There are many other beautiful beaches in the vicinity, Keem Bay, world renowned award winning beach location is 10mins drive. The Greenway now comes into the middle of Achill Island, a fantastic amenity, and there are plenty services for bike rental locally. Achill is known for its watersports, and there are plenty of options of services for lessons and rentals near the beach and lake. There is a playground across the road from the campsite, Local shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs are in walking distance. In summer season there are food and drinks trucks along the beach. A funfair comes to Keel in the summer months also.
